After the small island nation of Bahrain experienced a bloody civil uprising, the government cracked down on athletes who had participated in protests. Many were jailed and deported. For ESPN’s half-hour program E:60, I secured permissions for the crew and gear entry when journalists weren’t allowed in; found the athletes in exile, arranged Bahrain Olympic Committee and other high-level interviews, and helped lead the field production in Bahrain and Oman.
